One failing of the AZ public education system or US in general probably is the rigidity in teaching structure due to teacher to student ratio and funding, i.e. standardized testing and basically teaching kids to be good at school and following orders and compliance, to be content with being told what to do for the rest of your life, rather than actual life skills.

Where was I going with that… Reading ahead. Bad habit, right? Why? Because… In class they would have you all read from the same textbook at the same pace, which… h o l y s h i i i i i i i i t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t t tttttttt it takes some people so long to do things and reading is one of those things and not trying to be mean but the point is I naturally read ahead, so when it was my turn I’d have to furiously shuffle the pages to try to find the right place or, embarrassing, ask someone around me for the right spot… ……………………………………. …………… ….. Okay, they are trying to frame it as a Test of Patience?… That came through from somewhere, whatever, no, it’s indefensible. Equity not Equality. When I got to high school, charter school actually cause I got fucked over by the religious school scam… Let’s be real I was sent there because it was supposed to save my soul but there was so much fucking and drugs, I was a virgin until I met my wife but it was all around. Why even try to keep up the pretense of… moral superiority?… Anyway, tangent… When I was tasked with “Read whatever books on the shelf you want and then write a report on them, it can be just a general summary.” God I love you Mrs.(?) Cook. That shit was so easy I flew through the books I loved it. She understood that what was fine for the other students wasn’t cutting it for me and just let me read in her office from her personal bookshelf. We need more charter schools, more “experimental” teaching styles. When the goal is metrics and prophet margins you lose sight of the people and empathy and individual attention go out the window. “Gifted” programs were a joke. So, reading ahead. Reading ahead… And they don’t want you to learn they want you to be obedient. The real problem with reading ahead is when you learn too much. The real problem with reading ahead is when it’s knowing the futures and no one believes you. But it’s not so much reading ahead as… Oh yeah it was even easier the rare occasion where we had to write about a book I had already read at home alone, just had to try to remember…
